Infused lubes are specially formulated to contain around 8 to 10 milligrams of CBD per application. With .3% THC or less, there’s no risk of intoxication. However, if recreational marijuana is legal in your state the lube you purchase from a dispensary may contain enough THC to get you and your partner high.
What Does CBD Lubricant Do?
There is still very little research on the benefits of CBD personal lubricants. As with all oil or water-based lubes, it will minimize friction. However, CBD lube may make sex more comfortable. Many women and men feel pain with penetration and CBD may help to relax vaginal and anal muscles to reduce pain. It may also improve blood flow to the vagina, increasing sensitivity.
If your product is marijuana infused, it may help you both relax and release your inhibitions while being intimate. As always, ensure consent for both intimacy and marijuana use.
Does CBD Lube Really Work?
This is a question you’ll have to answer for yourself. Everyone responds differently to CBD. What we can say for sure is that CBD lube will minimize friction. Can CBD Oil Be Used As Lube?
There are a few different reasons why you should not use your CBD oil tincture as a lubricant:
- The milligrams per application are too difficult to control.
- Olive oil is likely safe, but it won’t stay slick as long as products designed specifically for sex.
- Olive oil can degrade condoms. This means that you will not be protected from STDs and the risk for pregnancy increases.
- Olive oil is messy and can permanently stain your sheets.
Some infused lubes contain coconut oil or other oils. Just like olive oil, coconut oil may degrade condoms so be sure to confirm what type of lube you are using.
Whether infused or not, water-based lubricants are the most versatile. They are ideal for penetrative sex, solo play, masturbation, sex toys, and vaginal dryness.
How Long Does CBD Lube Take To Work?
Most lubes are designed to apply and use ASAP, but not infused products. Some refer to them as “pre-lubes” because they should be applied 15 to 20 minutes before intercourse. Set a timer and use that time for foreplay. While the lubricating effects will work ASAP, wait to experience the benefits of CBD lube.

Is CBD Lube Designed For Men Or Women?
Infused lube works for everyone regardless of gender, but there are a few things you should know. While it will minimize friction when applied to a penis for masturbation or sex, it doesn’t deliver any additional benefits.
Unlike traditional lube, which is applied topically to the vulva and anus, infused lube should be applied internally. Both the inside of the vagina and anus have mucous membranes that CBD will rapidly absorb through. If you only apply it topically it will successfully minimize friction but it won’t deliver the benefits of CBD.
What Are The Risks Of Using CBD Lube?
There simply isn’t enough research to share the risks of CBD lubes. However, a growing number of men, women, and gynecologists support using infused lubes. Just be mindful that many are also infused with naturally derived extracts and oils. While natural, you may have a reaction to some of the ingredients. If you have sensitive skin or have had an allergic reaction to other lubes with additives, choose a CBD lube designed for sensitive skin.
Generally speaking, there are zero reports of overdosing on CBD. However, anything we consume or apply topically can have side effect. So, pay attention to how you feel once you start taking CBD or using infused lube. While extremely rare, and most often when taken in high doses, side effects of oral CBD include:
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
- Low-blood pressure
- Reduced appetite
- Negative interaction with prescription medications
Can I Take Oral CBD Before Sex Too?
Yes! In fact, you can take both an oral product and use CBD lube at the same time. The CBD oil, softgel, or gummy may help to soothe your mind and body. The lube may provide more topical comfort and pleasure.
Taking oil under your tongue can take effect within 30 minutes but a softgel or gummy can take up to 60 minutes to kick in. So, just like your lube, you’ll have to fill the time in between with something else. Make a romantic evening of it with infused aphrodisiacs.
Is CBD Lube Just For Sex?
Not necessarily. Many women struggle with vaginal dryness. Applying lubricant daily may minimize this dryness. However, CBD lube may not be the right solution. Schedule an appointment with your physician or gynecologist if you are experiencing vaginal dryness, discomfort during sex, or any significant changes in your body. Be sure to inquire about adding CBD to the mix during your appointment.
Can You Purchase CBD Lube On Amazon?
Nope! Currently, CBD and CBD infused products cannot be sold on Amazon or eBay. However, many hemp seed oil brands try to pass as CBD. Hemp seed oil is not the same product as CBD oil. It is a cooking oil created by pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. While it contains a variety of benefits, hemp seed oil does not contain measurable milligrams of CBD.
